Dubai: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (Dewa) conservation team visited 18 schools and preschools in Dubai as part of its Marhaba Madrasati (“Welcome my school”) initiative, organised by the Dubai Education Zone during the new academic year.
The visits are part of Dewa’s efforts to establish a culture of responsible use of resources among society members, especially students. The team targeted over 5,500 students in all grades, through simple and interactive workshops on the importance of preserving precious natural resources and avoid waste. The team also handed out gifts to the students and encouraged them to start the new academic year with positivity, interest, and perseverance.
“In order to achieve the leadership’s vision for sustainable development and transforming Dubai into a global hub for clean energy and green economy, we launch awareness initiatives and campaigns to consolidate a culture of the responsible resource use in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, as well as in educational institutions, government and semi-government organisations. This supports the Demand Management Strategy, that aims to reduce energy and water use by 30 per cent by 2030,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
