Dubai: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCE) on Wednesday announced a ban of imports of live chicken and wild birds from Bulgaria.

According to a statement posted on the MoCCE’s official twitter account, the ban on imported goods include “all types of live domestic and wild birds, ornamental birds, chicks, and hatching eggs and their thermally not treated products from Bulgaria.”

The ministry is constantly focused on raising the level of food safety and ensure the provision of safe food to consumers.

It works to implement Federal Law No 10 of 2015 on the safety of food, which applies to all establishments licensed to trade in food or feed, and consignments coming to the country, or passing through its territory.

Last July, the MoCCE prohibited the import of live domestic, wild and ornamental birds, chicks, eggs and poultry from Belgium.

The decision followed a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health about the registration of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Belgium.
