Al Shirawi Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Company has tied up with California-based U.S. Chiller Services to form a joint venture providing heavy tonnage air conditioning services.

Al Shirawi Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Company has tied up with California-based U.S. Chiller Services to form a joint venture providing heavy tonnage air conditioning services.

Speaking on the future plans and details of the new venture Al Shirawi executive director Navin Valrani said the the new company - Al Shirawi U.S. Chillers - will make an initial investment of Dh1.84 million ($500,000) in equipment and special tools.

Valrani said the investment is expected to go up to $2 million in the next 24 months as the business expands.

The joint venture expects to generate revenues of $10 million from the UAE in the next two years.

U.S. Chillers has its regional headquarters in Bahrain and it also has joint ventures in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. In Bahrain, the company said it holds75 per cent of the heavy tonnage air-conditioning maintenance services market.

"In the second phase, we are also looking at having our presence in Doha, Amman and African countries," said the director of the new venture, Nedhal S. Shaheen. The company also has a regional training centre in Bahrain and a four-day intensive training for the staff of the joint venture was also held in Dubai recently.

A statement said the company will be offering services of a level rarely seen in the region.

"The factory and industry certified engineers based in the UAE will be capable of performing a vast array of air-conditioning after sales, including technical training, centrifugal and screw compressor overhauls, chiller modernisation, among others," the statement added.

The joint venture will also have access to a wide range of OEM spare parts through the offices of the U.S. Chiller Services in San Francisco, Houston and Miami.

Al Shirawi Electrical and Mechanical Engineering is part of the Al Shirawi Group of Companies, one of the leading industrial conglomerates in the UAE.

The company has executed over 2,000 air conditioning maintenance contracts so far in the UAE.
