Abu Dhabi: Emirates Park Zoo’s otters are making their debut in Abu Dhabi in time for the end of the summer break.

The otter litter, which consists of one male and one female, have been named Jackie and Bruce by zookeepers and are fully grown, capable of swimming and available for viewing.

“Our two little otters bring us so much delight. They spend the day playing, sliding into the water, wrestling with each other and chasing their tails. It has come to my observation that our otter family are generally curious creatures,” said Dr Waleed Shabaan, zoo manager of Emirates Park Zoo and Resort.

“If the guests are lucky, they can see the otters clean their fur by biting it and scratching it against rocks. Watching them in their imitating habitat is heart-warming and engaging, making for a memorable experience,” Dr Shabaan said.

Officials will conduct an informative presentation about otters, considered to be one of the most social members of the animal kingdom, for the purpose of informing, educating and raising awareness on them.

The otters’ diet consists primarily of fish and meat and guests can view their feeding daily at 10.45am, 3pm and 7pm.
