Dubai: In a step to reach zero crimes at jewellery shops in Dubai, Dubai Police has established an innovation lab to study and develop new security systems.
Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, said the new innovations developed in the lab registered under the Dubai Police brand would be available for jewellery and gold shops.
“We have many studies to invent new ways to fight crime. We want to have zero robberies in jewellery shops and money exchanges. We will invite the owners to see the innovations and encourage them to use it,” Major General Al Merri said.
The innovations will be registered in the Ministry of Economy as intellectual copyright under the name of Dubai Police.
Meanwhile, Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police, said Dubai government was keen to use latest smart technology methods to fight crime and help the public to protect their properties and money.
“We are always looking to discover new ways and security systems to reach zero crimes in Dubai. The Crimes Prevention Department created the lab to study the new security systems for use here,” Major General Al Mansouri said.
The unbreakable safe, for example, is a new invention tested in the lab by the police and rated unbreakable. Brigadier Salem Al Rumaithi, Director of the General Department of Criminal and Investigation at Dubai Police, said the safe cannot be broken into and is explosion proof.
“We took the safe to the desert, and it couldn’t be opened even using explosives. It is one of the best safes as no criminal can break into the safe,” Brigadier Al Rumaithi said.
Another development is a lock for display shelves in jewellery shops which has a security code that sends an alarm to command room in a robbery situation.
If the owner enters an extra code, the lock will be open after 60 seconds but only after sending an alarm to the command room.
Another powerful system is a smoke machine that can generate thick smoke to cover the shop in three seconds during a break-in attempt so that the criminals will have very low visibility.
Another security system called ‘Distracting Device’ emits a loud alarm and distracts the intruder with bright flashing lights.
Brigadier Al Rumaithi said they have also developed a special money transfer bag with special specification to prevent crimes against money transfer companies.
“It has a tracking device. In case of robberies, the handle will heat up rapidly to make it hard to hold and it will also damage the currency inside if it forced open,” he added.
A device called ‘City Guard’, which is an invention by a policeman, has attached surveillance cameras to record the robbery and also includes movement sensors linked to the command room that sets of alarms with lights.
