Ras Al Khaimah: A Filipina housemaid was rescued by emergency workers after she fell into an uncovered water well here on Wednesday evening, an official at Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence told Gulf News.

The Civil Defence team was called in to Al Helila area after the owner of the house heard cries for help coming from the 15-metre-deep well at 7.50pm on Wednesday.

One of the rescuers rappelled down the well and brought the maid up.

The 48-year-old woman, identified only by her initials, L.J., sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

It was not immediately clear how the maid fell into the well.

Police took the owner of the house into custody for questioning.

Meanwhile, Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence reminded residents that all wells must be covered.
