Dubai: Thousands of low income workers enjoyed New Year celebrations by watching the live broadcast of the spectacular laser and fireworks show after authorities installed huge screens at their accomodations.

Dubai Police in cooperation with the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs installed two giant screens at the workers accommodations in Al Quoz and Muhaisnah 2 to help workers watch the laser light show and fireworks in Dubai.

Brigadier Abdullah Al Gaithi, Director of Protective Security and Emergency Department at Dubai Police, said Dubai want to take the joy of the New Year to all people.

“We are keen to make the workers happy by broadcasting the show live at their accomodations. We brought celebrations to them rather than they travelling to the crowded areas where celebrations were held,” Brigadier Al Gaithi said.

Labourers were told well in advance to watch the celebrations. Bollywood movies were also shown before and after live broadcast of the New Year show.

Meanwhile, Major General Obaid Muhair Bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai, and Chairman of the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs in Dubai, said the initiative, sponsored by Emaar Properties, entertained thousands of workers in the Muhaisnah 2 and Al Quoz areas, and it was part of the Year of Zayed celebrations.

“On the sidelines of this initiative, Beit Al Khair Society distributed more than 3,000 meals among the workers,” Major General Bin Suroor said. “We will continue organising such events to make workers happy,” he added.
