Dubai: Dubai Police praised the supervision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and Lt-General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, during the Torch Tower fire.

Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, was at the fire site to support the teams and to help in evacuating the residents.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said the efficiency and hard work of all the teams helped to control the fire without any causalities. The teams evacuated  475 residents and transferred them to three nearby hotels.

"Firefighters, rescue teams and Dubai ambulance staff helped in avoiding any casualties. We searched and inspected 597 appartments and evacuated 475 people in record time," Maj-Gen Al Merri said.

He said the safety procedure and fire system in the tower helped to control the fire in short time.

"The crisis and disaster teams played a key role in coordinating the effort to control the fire. Safety of the people is a priority for Dubai," he said.

Roads around Dubai Marina, interchanges and roads near the tower were all opened and everything is back to normal, said Dubai Police.
