Dubai: A police search and rescue crew rescued a man who plunged nine floors to the bottom of a residential building’s air well in Al Sufouh area, police said on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Asian man fell into the shaft from the top of the building and amazingly survived. However, he sustained serious injuries and was trapped there at 5pm on Saturday.

“He was trapped inside the shaft when we reached the building. He was suffering from serious injuries but we rescued him at 6:49pm," Colonel Ahmad Atik Bu Ruqaiba, deputy director of the search and rescue department at Dubai Police, told Gulf News.

The rescue crew managed to calm the Asian man and then put a plan into action to extract him from the narrow shaft.

"It was hard as there was a cement wall. We made a hole in the wall and then one of our men went inside and managed to rescue the worker."

Rescue teams used ropes and a stretcher to pull him to safety. Later, the worker was airlifted to Rashid Hospital.
