Dubai: Dubai Police has arrested two gangs who were planning to commit armed robberies on two money transfer vehicle in the emirate, police said on Monday.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-In-Chief of Dubai Police, said the data analysis centre used smart programs and artificial intelligence technology to trace the gangs and helped the officers to arrest them before committing their crimes.

“Using AI helped Dubai Police to arrest 11 African suspects who were planning to commit armed robberies on two money transfer vehicles within one week,” Maj-Gen Al Merri said.

“We arrested the 11 suspects and seized knives, swords, gloves and tools were planning to use it in their two robberies. The information from the data analysis center helped to prevent a crime,” said Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police.

Earlier this year, Dubai Police revealed that the number of serious crimes committed in the emirate fell by 15 per cent in 2017 compared to 2016, thanks to the data analysis centre which established in April last year.
