Sharjah: An 11-year-old Somalian boy died after he was run over by a speeding car while crossing a road in Al Khan area in Sharjah on Friday afternoon, a police official said on Sunday.

The boy, identified as A.A.O., was rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A police patrol and paramedics arrived at the scene after they were alerted about the accident at around 1.30pm.

The police said the child was crossing the road from an undesignated area when the accident occurred. The driver who caused the accident was speeding and not paying attention to the road. “The driver is in custody and is being questioned at Al Buhairah police station,” an officer said.

The police appealed to all parents to observe road safety rules and asked drivers to give priority to people crossing roads.
