Sharjah: His Highnesses Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Monday signed a cooperation agreement between Sharjah Academy of Performing Arts and the Guildford Academy at the UK’s University of Surrey.

The agreement complements the initial deal signed with Guildford Academy in August.

Signed by Dr Shaikh Sultan and Max Lu, President of the University of Surrey, the agreement aims to enhance cooperation and joint work in the field of administrative formation of the Sharjah academy, training programmes and academic qualification for artistic talents and human cadres specialising in performing arts, theatre and cinematographic work.

The academy will contribute to propping up the Gulf and Arab arena with an innovative generation who is aware of the important role of arts in expressing society’s issues and concerns.

The agreement comes within the framework of the establishment of the Sharjah Academy of Arts and the building of academic and educational cooperation relations and benefiting from educational experiences of international universities in the field of performing arts and the theatre.

The first academic programmes in acting, theatrical musical and direction will begin at the Sharjah Academy in September 2018, while other areas in performing arts will follow successively.
