Dubai’s Global Village festive park on Friday began celebrations of National Day with the epic performance of Belad Alkhair, an ode to National Day performed as one of the largest theatre productions in the Global Village’s history.
Belad Alkhair spanned over six scenes reflecting the history of “giving and goodness in the UAE”. The play opened with a song about UAE traditions and continued as a poetry epic by Emirati poet Abdullah Saleh.
The scenes represented several heritage and national songs, including Hoyamal (Song of the Sea), Beit Al Kabeer, Ayallah, and Fakhrina Khalifa.
Bader Anhawi, chief operating officer of the Global Village, said: “The UAE`s National Day is one of the dearest occasions to the hearts of everyone living in this country. The Global Village always makes sure to celebrate this occasion with its guests by hosting several activities and events especially prepared to display the love we have for the UAE.”
He added: “The Global Village’s celebrations of the UAE’s 46th National Day is more special this year with diversity of shows and events it hosts at its unique main cultural stage.”
The Belad Alkhair show has been produced by Lighthouse Production Company (LHP). It is directed by Emirati star Ali Al Khawar, its production designer is Obaid Ali and it is composed by Khalid Nasser.
Obaid Ali said: “Belad Alkhair is a proud national day production that celebrates the wonderful history and special occasion for the UAE in the ‘2017 Year of Giving’. Working with LHP on this National Day production allows us to contribute our cultural expertise through theatre and share this with all the people who will be watching the show and celebrating UAE’s National Day.”
