Dubai: Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children (AJCCC) in Dubai yesterday announced the launch of its Art Summer Series workshops, which will be held from July 7 to August 30.
Twenty-eight artists will participate in the initiative by offering workshops for children aged seven and above, in addition to workshops for adults.
During the series, around 70 workshops will be offered by instructors from the centre and guest artists. The workshops will cover a variety of artistic disciplines, such as Ebru (marbling on water), gilding, classical Arabic calligraphy, Islamic decoration, painting on ceramics, clay sculpting, hand casting, drawing on wood, fashion design, mobile phone photography, stop-motion, creative writing, puppet making, culinary arts, and others.
Visitors will be able to select the workshops through using a booklet on the series and updates on the centre’s social media channels, using the handle @ajcccuae.
Prices will range from around Dh100 per workshop to Dh500 or more, depending on the workshop. There will also be discounts, such as a 10 per cent discount for registering for more than three workshops.
The performing arts will also play an important part in the series. Workshops will include scriptwriting, improvisation, black-light theatre, and the staging of a tale from 1,001 Nights. Children will also get the chance to brush up their cooking skills, in addition to learning about social media uses for businesses and influencers. The series will also give them the opportunity to take part in Lego construction, programming and robotics challenges.
Attending Sunday’s press conference were some of the participating artists, including Moza Al Raqbani, director of strategy and planning at AJCCC; Heba Al Aloul, programmes development officer at AJCCC; visual artist Mohannad Orabi; and Dr Lamya Tawfik, presenter of Pearl FM, who is specialised in children’s media and culture.
During the conference, the centre also announced that it will host workshops in cinema animation and Japanese manga.
The names of some of the artists participating in the series, including Mohannad Orabi, Adnan Al Sherifi, Shereen Shalhoub, Khalid Bakkoura, Taghreed Suhail, Nour Bahjat Al Masri, Ola Al Dajani and Aisha Al Saeed, among others, were announced on the occasion.
In addition to the workshops, the series will also feature an Art Avenue that will be set up in central atrium inside the centre. The Art Avenue will include a wide variety of activities, such as photography, painting, virtual travel, food stalls, “and many more surprises”.
