Sharjah: Police arrested a group of six people who are alleged to have specialised in stealing goods from containers placed in front of warehouses in Sharjah industrial areas.

The suspects committed several thefts by stealing a number of containers laden with goods and placed by their owners in front of their premises.

Sharjah Police formed a special task force to root out the culprits behind the container thefts and during the course of the investigation, police tracked down some of the suspected thieves in Sharjah which led to six men being taken into custody.

Police said once in custody, the men shared with police their methods and roles in carrying out the thefts.

One of the gang members said he conducted a search through the industrial area looking for possible containers to steal and once he found a worthy one would inform the others who would then descend on the scene to liberate the storage bin of its goods.

The hiding place for the loot was later decided between the men during each of the incidents.

The suspects were identified as expatriates — four from Pakistan, one Gulf national and an Indian national.

The suspects stored the stolen goods in a commercial shop in Dubai, houses in Ras Al Khaimah, at farms in Al Heilw area of Ajman, and at the house of one of the suspects living in the Al Dhaid area.

The gang has been charged with robbery and theft . The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Police did not divulge the value of the items that were stolen nor did they release how much of the stolen goods were recovered.

Sharjah Police, meanwhile, are advising business owners that they need to take safety precautions to avoid thefts and not to leave their containers in unsafe areas unattended.
