Abu Dhabi: A government employee has been sentenced to three years in jail for disclosing secrets related to his job and publishing material on social media sites, a statement from the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department said on Wednesday.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court also ordered the confiscation of his mobile phone and the closure of his social media accounts.

The court also gave him an extra year of imprisonment for escaping after the arrest.

The Public Prosecution’s investigation revealed that the accused accessed the information electronically taking advantage of his specialised job position beyond the accessibility limits granted to him.

He copied information about a subject he knew about because of his work, then posted it on social media sites adding comments to it.
