Al Ain: Abu Dhabi Police have confiscated 13,000 banned drug capsules from a pharmacy in Al Ain and arrested four persons, an official said on Tuesday.

The seized drug has been identified as Pregabalin, marketed under the brand name Lyrica, and it is a medication used to treat epilepsy.

The police also arrested the owner of the pharmacy. The suspects are Asians and Arabs.

Lieutenant Taher Gareeb Al Daheri, director of the police’s anti-narcotics department, said the police seized the drugs from the pharmacy’s storeroom.

The police received a complaint that the pharmacy was selling certain banned drugs without doctors’ prescription.

Lieutenant Al Daheri said the seizure was done in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

The police have referred the culprits to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.

Lieutenant Al Daheri urged people to report any such activities and help combat the illegal drug trade.
