Dubai: Dubai Police have arrested a man for running an illegal tattoo parlour and attracting customers through social networks.

Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs of Dubai Police, said the man was running the unlicensed tattoo parlour in a residential villa in Bur Dubai.

“The suspects were luring young people and women through social networks. He was using unlicensed tools and fake ink to provide cheap tattoos. Such fake inks and tools harm health,” Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said.

The suspect also offered home services and targeted teenagers and women.

Lt Col Omar Mohammad Bin Hammad, deputy director of the Anti-Economic Crime Department at Dubai Police, said they trapped the suspect by sending an undercover policeman as a customer.

“After agreeing on the price, the suspect prepared to start his work when we raided the villa and arrested him. We seized many materials used in his business and a big list of customers,” Lt Col Bin Hammad said.

The man was referred to the Dubai public prosecution.

It is illegal to get a tattoo done by an unlicensed tattoo artist due to the risks this poses to public health. The tools might not be sterilised and may thus lead to the transmission of serious diseases such as Aids or Hepatitis. The tattoo itself might cause certain skin diseases.
