Dubai: A man broke into a villa and made himself comfortable lying down in the garden for a while before attempting to barge into the house and assaulting the owner of the house and a policemen with an iron candle holder, a Dubai Police official said.

Brigadier Ahmad Thani Bin Gulaitha, director of Rafaa police station and head of Police Stations Council in Dubai Police, said Eid Al Fitr went smoothly in Dubai and the only untoward incident was reported on 6.15 am on Sunday in Mankhol area in Dubai when a man broke into the villa of an Asian man and made himself cosy in the garden.

The owner alerted Dubai Police and waited for the patrol outside the villa.

“The stranger refused when the owner asked him to leave the house. We sent a police patrol after the owner called for help. When the officers asked the stranger for his details, he became angry and tried to enter the villa,” Brigadier Bin Gulaitha said.

The owner blocked his way but the stranger slapped him in the face and officers couldn’t stop the suspect as he grabbed a candle holder installed near the villa’s door and threatened to assault anybody who tried to stop him.

“He went inside and locked himself inside a room. Other officers went for back-up with ambulance and we arrested him despite his strong resistance.”

Brigadier Bin Gulaitha said that the stranger was in an unstable condition and the officers suspected that he was under the influence of drugs.

However, the suspect was taken to the Anti-Narcotic Department in Dubai Police to check if he was under the influence of drugs after police found a white substance in his left shoe besides illegal painkillers.

“We found illegal painkiller pills and white substance suspected to be crystal meth. We will refer him to the concerned authorities later to finish the investigation,” Brigadier Bin Gulaitha added.
