Sharjah: A 30-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after sustaining serious burns from a liquid chemical attack allegedly perpetrated by her husband in Sharjah.
Contrary to earlier reports, police said that the liquid chemical used in the attack was not acid. Forensic experts are still determining the type of chemical used while a police investigation into the case is ongoing.
An official at the Sharjah Police told Gulf News that the woman died on Tuesday, 12 days after she was admitted to the hospital for serious burns.
The police said that the woman had accused her Sri Lankan husband of pouring liquid chemical on her and her boyfriend on September 21.
Police identified the woman as P.R.E.H. and her 23-year-old boyfriend as P.K.H., who is currently receiving treatment at Al Qassimi hospital's intensive care unit.
Police said that the woman's relative, who was staying with the couple in the apartment, brought them to the hospital.
The duo suffered facial and body burns and were admitted to the intensive care unit of Al Kuwaiti hospital before they were transferred to Al Qassimi hospital after their condition worsened.
The victim had accused her husband of pouring a chemical substance on her and her boyfriend while they were sleeping together in an apartment along Sharjah's Jamal Abdul Nasser Street.
The woman had told police that her 30-year-old husband allegedly threatened to kill her over martial disputes.
Her husband was arrested at the Sharjah airport while attempting to flee the UAE following the crime.
