Ajman: Four suspects were arrested in Sharjah on charges of robbing bank customers in Ajman, police said on Sunday.

All the four suspects are Arabs and they closely watched people who withdrew money from banks before robbing them, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director of Ajman Criminal and Investigation Department at Ajman Police, said.

The suspects targeted customers who withdrew cash, put the amount in an envelope, and placed it on the front seat of their cars.

The arrest was made after police received a complaint from an Asian man who was targeted by the suspects. He said he withdrew Dh130,000 from a bank in Ajman and parked his car in front of a shop where the suspects broke the glass window of his car and stole the cash.

The police arrested the suspects after identifying the car used by the suspects to carry out their crime.

The suspects were about to leave the country through Sharjah airport when they were arrested.

The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

The police, meanwhile, said it received a number of complaints about robberies where people had withdrawn money from banks then fallen victim to the thieves, Ajman police said.

Ajman Police have launched a number of awareness campaigns for the safety of bank customers and educate them on the security measures to adopt when they withdraw cash from the ATM machines or from the bank counters. Brochures written in Arabic, English, Urdu and Chinese also were distributed to bank customers and people on the roads.
