Dubai: A worker has been accused of using Adobe Photoshop to tamper with a Roads and Transport Authority [RTA] parking ticket to park for free, heard a court on Thursday.

An RTA inspector was said to be on duty in Al Karama area when he spotted a suspicious parking ticket placed on the dashboard of a car in March.

Once he double-checked the ticket and discovered that it was forged, according to records, the inspector called the police.

Police identified the car owner, who turned out to be a 25-year-old Indian worker.

The man was summoned to the parking lot where he had parked his car and he handed over the forged RTA ticket to the inspector.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of tampering with an RTA parking ticket and using it.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the Indian used the computer to photoshop the parking ticket and use it.

The suspect pleaded not guilty when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday.

He contended before presiding judge Urfan Omar that he used the forged ticket by mistake once.

His lawyer asked the court to adjourn until he prepares his defence arguments.

The RTA inspector testified to prosecutors that he called the police after he discovered that the ticket was forged.

When questioned before prosecutors, the suspect was cited as saying that he photocopied the parking ticket and then he forged it using the Adobe Photoshop programme.

The trial continues.
