Dubai: A student, who had illicit sex with a married woman and consumed drugs with her at a hotel room, lost his appeal and will be jailed for 39 months.
The woman’s husband complained to Dubai Police that his wife was having an extramarital relationship with the 26-year-old Palestinian student at a hotel in Bur Dubai in September 2017.
Police raided the hotel room and found the wife and the student under the influence of drugs.
In February, the Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the Palestinian accused for three years for providing drugs to the woman defendant and fined him Dh20,000. He was also sentenced to three months in jail over the illicit sex charge.
The defendant appealed the ruling before the Appeal Court where he sought to have his punishment overturned.
The Palestinian contended that he didn’t provide amphetamine, methamphetamine and Pregabalin to the woman.
Presiding judge Eisa Al Sharif dismissed the defendant’s appeal and upheld his 39-month imprisonment.
The accused will also have to pay a Dh20,000 fine and will be deported following the completion of his punishment.
A police lieutenant said they raided the hotel room shortly after the husband had complained to them that his wife was cheating on him.
“We raided the hotel room and arrested the couple. Upon questioning, the housewife said she had sex three times with the student, who confirmed her claims.
“She also claimed that she consumed mind-altering substances that she took from the Palestinian.
“The student claimed that his brother had taken the drugs from a Pakistani … he also claimed that he had been providing the housewife with drugs since July 2017,” the police officer said.
The woman defendant was tried before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court that sentenced her to 18 months in jail for having unmarried sex and consuming drugs. She will also be deported.
The Palestinian defendant’s appellate ruling remains subject to appeal before the Cassation Court.
