Dubai: A salesperson has been accused of attempting to kill his co-worker by stabbing him with a kitchen knife with which he was cooking dinner, heard a court on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old Sudanese co-worker walked into the kitchen of the flat that he shared with his 22-year-old countryman salesperson in Naif area.

Having had a pervious dispute, the two Sudanese men had a heated argument, according to records, before the younger man stabbed the other in his chest and back in October.

The co-worker was rushed to hospital where quick medical intervention helped save his life.

Police apprehended the youth shortly after the incident.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with attempting to kill his countryman with a kitchen knife.

The suspect failed to show up before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter his plea on Tuesday.

Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal will hand out a ruling in absentia next week.

The victim told prosecutors that the suspect stabbed him in the kitchen due to a previous dispute between them.

A police sergeant testified to prosecutors: “We were informed about a stabbing incident in one of the flats in Naif. The stabbed person claimed to us that the suspect was present in the kitchen cooking … they had a heated argument and the young man stabbed his co-worker twice. Upon confronting the suspect, he admitted that he stabbed the older man with a small knife without intending to kill him.”
