A salesperson has been jailed for six months for attempting to kill his co-worker by stabbing him with a kitchen knife.

The 51-year-old Sudanese co-worker walked into the kitchen of the flat that he shared with his 22-year-old countryman salesperson in Naif area.

The two Sudanese men had a heated argument over a previous dispute and the 22-year-old stabbed the 51-year-old in his chest and back in October.

The co-worker was taken to hospital where quick medical intervention helped save his life.

On Tuesday, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendant of trying to kill his countryman with a kitchen knife.

According to the primary ruling, presiding judge Mohammad Jamal also fined the accused Dh3,000.

The 51-year-old co-worker testified that the defendant stabbed him in the kitchen due to a previous dispute between them.

A police sergeant said they were notified about a stabbing incident in one of the flats in Naif.

“The stabbed person claimed to us that the suspect was present in the kitchen cooking … they had a heated argument and the 22-year-old stabbed his co-worker twice. Upon confronting the suspect, he admitted that he stabbed the 51-year-old with a small knife without intending to kill him,” said the sergeant.

The ruling remains subject to appeal.
