Dubai: A woman and two men have been accused of luring a lawyer for massage at a flat where they threatened to beat him to death and robbed his Dh33,200.

The American lawyer was said to have matched with a Bulgarian blonde on the dating app, Tinder, and agreed to go pick her up for dinner and then spend time with her in December.

The supposedly Bulgarian woman shared her location with lawyer on WhatsApp, according to records, and he went to pick her up.

Once the American reached the address, the woman asked him to come up and wait for her to dress for dinner.

When the lawyer reached at the given address and knocked on the door, the woman, who was a Nigerian, pulled him into the flat, said records.

Then another woman came out from a side room and the two women asked the man to give them money.

When the American refused to give them money, three Nigerian men came into the room and threatened to beat him to death if he refused to cooperate with them.

The Nigerian men stripped and beat the lawyer and threatened to beat him to death if he didn’t give them the passwords of his credit cards.

After the two Nigerian women left the flat, the three men threatened the American with a knife and snatched Dh3,000 from him. They also took away his credit cards and withdrew Dh30,000 from his account.

The American reported the matter to police once the Nigerian men left the place.

Police apprehended one of the Nigerian woman, 31, in a sting operation.

Primary interrogations also led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Nigerian man while his 33-year-old countryman is still at large.

Prosecutors accused the Nigerian trio [two men and a woman] of robbing Dh33,200 from the lawyer under coercion and threat. They were also accused of verbally threatening to beat him to death and using his credit cards without his permission.

The 31-year-old Nigerian woman pleaded not guilty when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

“I do not know this man [she pointed to her countryman suspect in the dock]. I had nothing to do in this case … she dragged me in and accused me,” she argued before presiding judge Urfan Omar.

Meanwhile the 23-year-old suspect pleaded guilty and admitted that he robbed the lawyer’s money.

He contended before the presiding judge: “I do not know this woman … she has nothing to do with us. This is the first time I have seen her.”

The American lawyer told prosecutors that he matched with a beautiful blonde Bulgarian woman on Tinder and agreed to meet her.

“They forced me into the flat. I was beaten and robbed and threatened to be killed. They took my credit cards at knifepoint,” he told prosecutors.

A police lieutenant told prosecutors that they identified the 31-year-old Nigerian woman suspect from the mobile number that she had used to share her location with the American on his WhatsApp.

A ruling in the case will be announced on April 30.
