Dubai: A businessman lured a woman to his company on the pretext of a job interview and hugged and kissed her against her will, heard a court on Thursday.

According to the case, the Pakistani woman had been searching for a job and forwarding her CV online before her 43-year-old countryman businessman called her for an interview in May.

Accompanied by her fiance, the jobseeker went to the company and notified the businessman, according to records, that she had to exit Dubai and return on a new visa as her visa was about to expire.

The woman left the UAE and the businessman flew her back in and called her over for an interview, during which he hugged and kissed her lips once he welcomed her in his office.

Shocked by the businessman’s behaviour, the woman pushed the man away, locked herself in the washroom and called her fiance.

The fiance rushed to the company and the woman came out of the washroom. She reported the matter to the police.

Police apprehended the businessman.

Prosecutors accused the Pakistani suspect of molesting his countrywoman.

The defendant pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday.

The suspect’s relative was seen approaching the judges’ bench and telling the presiding judge that the complainant had blackmailed the suspect and demanded Dh50,000 and two mobile phones if he wanted her to waive her complaint.

The woman told prosecutors that the suspect called her for a job interview at his cargo company.

“He had offered to hire me as a computer operator. I went to his office and he had two visitors. When the visitors left, he came towards me and suddenly hugged and kissed me. He pecked my cheeks and then kissed my lips. I was surprised and shocked … I pushed him away and hid in the bathroom. I called my fiance and told him what had happened. My fiance had a heated argument with the suspect when he came to the company. We reported the matter to the police … I did not ask the suspect for any money or a cheque in order not to create trouble for him,” she testified to prosecutors.

A ruling will be heard next week.
