Abu Dhabi: Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) will organise a series of mass weddings for 2,200 Yemenis in eight governorates.

ERC will also provide household furnishings and other requirements for the married couples in line with the social and humanitarian goals of the initiative, which is being carried out under the directives and patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of ERC, said the UAE strives to provide aid that enables families to have a stable living standard.

Shaikh Hamdan pointed out the youth are a key factor in the reconstruction and development process of their country.

Dr Mohammad Atiq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, said the mass weddings were part of ERC’s initiatives in Yemen during the Year of Zayed. He pointed out these initiatives are a part of the ERC’s commitment to the youth; it has also organised mass weddings in the past in Iraq, Socotra (also in Yemen), and Syrian refugee camps in Jordan.
