MOCHA — The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), with support from the UAE Armed Forces, distributed thousands of food baskets to the residents of the Mocha district in the Taiz Governorate on Yemen’s Red Sea Coast, after its liberation from the Iran-backed Al Houthi militias.
The Arab Coalition Forces, led by Saudi Arabia, are continuing their humanitarian efforts as part of Operation Restoring Hope in Yemen, with the UAE Armed Forces providing aid to those in need in liberated areas.
Yemeni Minister of Health Nasser Baoum has commended the assistance provided by the UAE to Yemen, pointing out that his country is suffering from catastrophic health conditions due to the conflict it is witnessing.
Speaking during the 49th session of Arab Health Ministers Council at the Arab League headquarters, Dr. Baoum said, “The conflict in Yemen has led to disastrous results in the health sector, where 16 million people lack health care, 1.5 million children are malnourished.”
He also added that 50 per cent of health facilities are partially or completely closed, 17 million people are suffering from food insecurity, drinking water shortages and services such as electricity and others.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM), accompanied an ERC relief convoy, where food parcels were distributed to residents of the village of Waheja in Mocha. Waheja was liberated from the Al Houthi militias over a year ago, during which the ERC has provided crucial food and basic supplies to the village residents to help improve their living situation.
Rashid Al Khattari, and other ERC representatives in the country’s Red Sea Coast region, told WAM the organisation’s teams had distributed over 2,000 food parcels to Waheja residents to alleviate the suffering experienced during Al Houthis’ siege.
The value of UAE foreign aid to Yemen from April 2015 to November 2017 reached Dh9.4 billion, reflecting the UAE’s keenness to reduce the suffering of the Yemenis and is in compliance with the nation’s humanitarian and development policy and its desire to establish growth, security and stability in Yemen.
