Manama: A ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Iran-backed Al Houthis at the southern Saudi port city of Jazan has fallen on an uninhabited desert terrain, the spokesperson for the Arab Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, has said.

Colonel Turki Al Maliki, said that at 10.18am on Monday, the Saudi Royal Air Defence Forces started tracking a ballistic missile launched by Al Houthi militia.

The missile was launched from Saada governorate to deliberately target civilian objects, he added.

“Launching a ballistic missile towards densely populated areas by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia is yet another violation of international humanitarian law, and proves continued Iranian involvement in the Yemeni conflict,” he said in a statement relayed by the Riyadh-based Centre for International Communication.

“Iran is supporting Al Houthis with advanced military capabilities, in a clear and explicit violation of UN Security Council Resolutions 2216 and 2231, in order to threaten the security of Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, and the stability of the international order.”
