Manama: A US flight trainer was killed and a Saudi trainee pilot was injured when their AH-6i light attack/ reconnaissance helicopter crashed on Thursday morning.

The Ministry of National Guard said the crash occurred at the regular training site at Kashm Al Aam in Riyadh. The injured pilot, Hisham Bin Abdul Aziz Al Shaikh, was taken to King Abdul Aziz Medical City for treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.

The deceased US trainer was identified as Paul Reedy.

An investigation to determine the causes of the crash has been launched, the ministry said on Twitter.

The US Embassy in Riyadh did not immediately respond to a request for comment. According to army reports, the AH-6i helicopter is intended to provide close air support for land-based forces.
