Cairo: A Saudi boy has yet to recover from the chilling killing of his younger sister allegedly by an Ethiopian maid while their mother was at work.

Ali Al Qarni, 14, sustained injuries in the chest purportedly when he attempted to defend his 11-year-old sister Nawal against a knife attack by the maid inside their house in the quarter of Laban in West Riyadh.

“My injuries are a badge of honour for me,” the boy told AlArabiya.net

“I was trying to defend my sister and keep the criminal maid away,” he added.

Ali has been moved from the intesive care unit at a local hospital where he is slowly recovering.

His grief-stricken mother says she is proud of him.

“I have reared my son to be a real man and be responsible for his sister. He was able to act despite the gruesome tragedy that he witnessed,” she said.

The boy was stabbed 14 times by the maid before he was able to reach the bathroom where he locked himself in and called his mother.

The mother called the police who rushed ot the scene and arrested the maid who is still in their custody pending trial.

The police are not yet sure about the maid’s motive for the attack, but the uncle of the children said that the maid had only worked for the family for 10 days, coming from their grandmother’s house in another

city, where she finished her employment contract.

The maid was planning to travel home from the Riyadh airport.
