Cairo: Saudi police have arrested a young man suspected of sexually exploiting children, the official Saudi news agency SPA reported on Friday.

The man lured his victims through online video games, the agency added, citing a prosecution source.

The man was exposed after footage emerged online purportedly unmasking his predatory behaviour and chats with children that provoked an outcry, the Saudi news portal Sabq reported.

Outraged citizens filed legal complaints after which Saudi Prosecutor-General Shaikh Saudi Bin Abdullah ordered the man’s arrest.

If convicted, the suspect could be punished under a recently approved anti-harassment law.

According to the law, offenders caught harassing children face a penalty of up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of 300,000 Saudi riyals.

In May, the Saudi government adopted the law, weeks before women in the kingdom were allowed to drive cars after the historic lifting of a years-long ban.
