Muscat: Seven Saudi nationals were killed, and five others injured in a car accident in Haima, central Oman, on Tuesday. The head-on collision involved their vehicle and a truck, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said.
The victims died on the spot. Five others sustained medium to serious injuries, and were transported to hospitals in Haima and Nizwa. No more information has been made available about the accident.
In online statement, the ROP said, “A collision between two vehicles before the Haima province of Wusta governorate resulted in the deaths of seven people and injury of others five. All are from Saudi Arabia.”
An official at the ROP told Gulf News that investigations were underway, without giving further details.
On August 4, four Emiratis, including two children, were killed and two seriously injured in Wusta province.
In July, five Yemenis were killed in a road accident in Oman’s Ibri province after the vehicle they were travelling in flipped. Wrong-overtaking and speeding are the main reasons behind the accidents on Adam-Haima-Salalah road stretch, according to ROP.
Salalah is a popular summer destination for many in the GCC. Its known for its moderate temperature and lush green landscapes.
According to the ROP, 3,845 accidents occurred in 2017, down from 4,721 in 2016, which resulted in the deaths of 640 people and injuries to 3,134.
