Dubai: Kuwait's Defense Ministry on Wednesday confirmed that the army's Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Mohammad Al Khuder and his accompanying delegation were safe following a helicopter accident in Bangladesh.

The accident occurred when the helicopter was attempting to land in the Silit area, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.

Heavy fog obscured the pilot's vision and caused the helicopter to hit trees prior to landing in the designated site, the ministry said in a press release carried by the official news agency. Only one passenger was slightly injured in the accident.

Dhaka Tribune said that the accident happened in Sreemangal town at 10:18am, local time.

According to the Kuwaiti defence ministry statement, the Chief of Staff had contacted First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Shaikh Nasser Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah as well as Deputy Chief of Staff General Abdullah Nawaf Al Sabah and stressed the safety of all passengers.

The Chief of Staff and his delegation left Kuwait on Monday morning on an official visit to Bangladesh.
