Kuwait: The Kuwait Declaration said media representatives and intellectuals in the Gulf have the responsibility to play a constructive and active role in supporting and reinforcing the joint GCC action in the best interests of the Gulf nations and peoples.

The Declaration, which was issued after the conclusion of the 38th summit in Kuwait yesterday, urged the region’s media to “bear their responsibility” in encouraging unity and presenting constructive suggestions to complete plans and projects adopted by the Gulf nations as part of their drive for joint GCC action.

Reading out the Declaration at the session’s conclusion, GCC Secretary General Abdul Latif Al Zayani said it was imperative for GCC states to unite and combine their efforts to face the challenges that threaten the region’s security and stability.

The declaration highlighted the importance of upholding the GCC’s progress, enhancing collective endeavours, and mobilising the collective potential to face all challenges, and fortifying the region against their repercussions. This, so as to meet the aspirations of GCC citizens and preserve the gains of Gulf integration.

It said the GCC has made great strides towards achieving its goals since its establishment 36 years ago, and will press ahead with its efforts to boost joint action. It also said the GCC will complete programmes and projects for economic, socio-political, security and military integration through the full implementation of the plans approved by the Supreme GCC Council, deepening the Gulf citizenship.

GCC leaders reiterated the need to continue working to achieve economic integration, and commit to the full implementation of the economic agreement while overcoming obstacles in the path towards the GCC common market.

They stressed the pivotal role of the council in safeguarding the region’s security and stability, and fighting terrorist organisations and radical ideologies while defending Arab values and true Islamic principles of moderation and tolerance.
