Manila: The Iglesia ni Christo (Church of Christ) claimed to have broken the Guinness World Record for forming the largest human individual-formed sentence with 23,235 participants taking part in the Sunday morning feat.

In the INC owned and run website, Eagle News, the Filipino-founded Christian sect said that Guinness adjudicator Paulina Sapinska had certified the achievement which took place along Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City in Metro Manila.

The members formed the sentence “I am proud to be a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo,” beating a record set by a group of people in Perambalur, India when 16,550 participants formed the sentence: “You can you will” on August 10, 2016.

The feat was also held alongside another group achievement when some 1.1 million of the sect’ members took part in the 1.6-kilometre 2018 Worldwide Walk against poverty which was participated in various locations around the world by its members and non-member volunteers.

The Philippine National Police said some 1.2 million people participated in the feat.

Bro. Erwin Briones, public information officer of the INC, said that apart from setting the world record for largest human individual-formed sentence and the largest charity walk, the group is also trying to set the world record for the largest photo mosaic, both single venue and multiple venues, and with the most number of nationalities.

Made up of several million members, the INC is considered a political force in the Philippines during national elections.

In 2014, the INC constructed the Philippine Arena in the area of Bocaue and Santa Maria towns in the Central Luzon province of Bulacan, considered the biggest indoor arena.
