Hyderabad: As most parts of Telangana, including the capital Hyderabad, reeled under an intense heatwave — with the mercury touching a high of 42 degrees Celsius in many places — power cuts were further adding to the struggles faced by thousands of people.

Such was the intensity of the heat that 15 deaths due to sunstroke were reported from Adilabad and Karimnagar districts over the last few days. The two districts of north Telangana recorded the highest temperature of more than 42C while it was hovering around 41C in Hyderabad.

Apart from the districts and rural areas, many parts of Hyderabad were also witnessing frequent power outages throughout the day.

The Meteorological Centre in Hyderabad had warned the high temperatures and dry weather were likely to continue for the rest of the week.

Though the state government has not announced any scheduled power cuts, outages have become a norm as the citizens were experiencing the power shut down many times during he day and the night.

The complaints were frequent from the old city areas, where there is older power and water infrastructure.

Many residents complained that the power supply was disrupted during the day and night for periods of one to two hours.
