Patna: A man in Bihar has threatened to bomb Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and his security personnel a day after angry villagers attacked his convoy during his tour in the countryside.

Police have arrested the accused.

Authorities acted after a video of the man issuing the open threat to the chief minister went viral on a WhasApp group. A ruling Janata Dal United (JD-U) leader who was a member of the group soon reported the matter to the police.

Since the matter involved the chief minister, the local police instantly swung into action and eventually arrested the suspect from a village in Fatuha block of Patna district on Friday evening.

“Soon after the video went viral, police came into action and arrested the accused,” Patna’s senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said.

A team of police officials is interrogating the youth to know why he posted the video on social media.

According to unconfirmed reports, the arrested youth was angry with Nitish Kumar over the current sand crisis in the state which hit his business.

The incident comes barely hours after the convoy of the chief minister was attacked in Buxur district of Bihar, damaging many vehicles and wounding some 10 policemen deployed in his security.

Reports said the chief minister was on way to “review” development works in Buxur district of Bihar on Friday when the Dalit villagers on way urged him to pay a visit to their hamlet as well and see for himself the complete lack of civic amenities and their sufferings but CM’s cavalcade moved ahead.

This infuriated the villagers who subsequently chased the cavalcade and attacked them with large bricks and stones, damaging many vehicles. The chief minister was somehow safely taken to the venue of the meeting.

The grievance of the Dalit villagers was that the government had been carrying out “selective development”. They also alleged that no development works had taken place in most of the villages although the chief minister had promised to launch massive development schemes to all villages under his “seven resolves” during his assembly poll campaign.

Meanwhile the police have arrested 21 persons allegedly involved in the attack on the chief minister’s convoy even as the state government has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident.
