His love for music started in his early years when he used to collect vinyls and cassette tapes. That passion led him to a career as a DJ starting in the 1990s.

In the UAE, Teddy Jam developed a unique blend of genres that started with soulful roots and stemmed out to hip hop, R&B, and Reggae. Later on, the versatile DJ explored the eccentric notes associated with Caribbean and dancehall music and tailoured a unique style.

“I feel these kinds of music because it can make people vibrate, move and feel inspired through its positive message,” he said.

Living by the words of his expression “One Love One Music”, Teddy Jam aims to bring out the best in people through this performances. Gulf News caught up with the resident DJ of the UAE Reggae Beachfest.

How did you become a DJ?

It started with a record collection. When I was younger I used to collect records and loved the hip hop and soul music genres. When I got into my late teens I started spinning as the music videos were promoting the industry at the time.

What’s your deejaying style?

I am an analog DJ that plays on vinyls and love the music I play, so does my audience. I’m very committed to my fans and have an engaged connection with my followers.

What is the most interesting part of being a DJ for you?

I got to work with a major airline and I usually play a show at every destination I travelled to.

Describe the Dubai music scene.

The Caribbean reggae and dancehall scenes in Dubai and the UAE in general have been slowly and steadily creeping towards the top. The music genre itself is very compatible with the region as reggae’s roots grow out of Afrobeat, Latin, and other Middle Eastern tones. Therefore, it has a mass appeal among the public and of course the dedicated fans. I think this year and the years to come will mark a milestone for Caribbean music in the UAE.

What’s next for you?

I’m trying to really expand on my international presence. This year I have started doing music tours oveerseas. I want to step up my professionalism and expand my reach to the global fans.
