Trends come and go, but classic fashions always remain in style. And the same goes with hair, as we see our favourite celebrity style icons continue to return to the classic Hollywood hairstyles that the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren made famous, and it’s not hard to see why - nothing feels as glamourous or sexy as classic Hollywood hair.

There’s plenty of styles to choose from, from Great Gatsby style waves, tumbling curls and stylish up-dos, as hairstylist to the stars, Asgar Saboo, shows you how to get A-list celebrity hair.

1. Stylish updo

Doesn’t this look remind you of Grace Kelly? It’s an ultra classic style reminiscent of the fifties, and we recently saw Jennifer Lawrence in the film American Hustle rocking a seventies version of this.

This is one of the most requested hairstyles for the biggest celebrity red carpets, since it brings luxury to any look but still means that the full detailing of the dress on display can be seen.

It might surprise you to learn that this look is actually most popular with the youngest actresses out there, who want to bring a touch of the golden era to their style.

Set your hair in big rollers first, then once it’s cooled, comb your hair to the parting you desire – a soft side part can be used to achieve the exact look above. Carefully pin your hair into place and then use lots of hairspray to set, I also find this looks most glamourous on freshly washed and styled hair.

2. Gatsby with a twist

If you have short hair and you want to match your significant other’s sexy hairstyle, I suggest the Great Gatsby look. For smoother and silkier finish, your hair needs to be squeaky clean and properly conditioned.

After drying it, you will need to get your hands on some hair styling products such as hair gel, wax or high-shine hair spray and then comb it into a far-left parting. You can also smooth a little moulding paste to keep you hair in place.

3. The classic bob

I love to see this hairstyle on women of all ages, particularly those who have a strong sense of confidence about them. This style is reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn and Louise Brooks, and we’re seeing starlets of all ages still wear this cut with pride.

Wait Until Dark

I love how a wide range of celebrities, from Beyonce to Victoria Beckham and Camilla Belle, have worn this hairstyle with a relaxed sense of glamour.

Ask your hairstylist which length will suit you, as this depends on your face shape. A round or heart shaped face can get away with a really short length, whilst I advise women with long faces to keep the length nearer to the shoulders and with plenty of volume.

Keep the look modern with the right styling products – a light oil just at the ends of the hair will keep it in good condition and using a spritz of texturising spray keeps the look cool and laid back.

4. Big hair is beautiful

This must be one of the most popular hairstyles, having not gone out of fashion since the fifties! To achieve a classic look, make sure you carefully blow dry hair using a large round brush and then use rollers to hold the curl.

Once the rollers have cooled, remove and backcomb at the roots to achieve the style loved by glamazons including Kim Kardashian West. Want your hair to seem a little more lived in? Comb through the curls using your fingers and use salt spray to give it that sexy, tousled look.

5. Vintage curls and vibrant red lips

If you want to pull out all the stops and surprise your man, then why not opt for vintage curls and extra volume? Use volume spray before drying your locks, then insert Velcro rollers working your way from the top of the head.

Leave the rollers in for at least one hour. Make sure you brush out the curls with a comb and use plenty of hairspray for maximum hold. For a glamorous finish, use bright red lipstick, elegant eyeliner and thick mascara.
