Indian Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has apologised, but Twitterati is not happy.

The star found herself in a Twitter controversy over her recent Quantico episode. The US television series showed her uncovering a terror plot hatched by Indian Hindu nationalists.

Chopra wrote an apology to her fans and fellow Indians earlier today through her Twitter account @PriyankaChopra: “I’m extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I’m a proud Indian and that will never change.”

But this was not enough.

Tweep @TheSignOfFive wrote: “That’s the mealiest-mouthed apology one could have expected from you, who’s usually so articulate.” Twitter @shiyaans added: “You read the episode, rehearsed it and then shot for it for many days. How can this be a mistake? This apology is as bad as your show.”

Hindu nationalists and keyboard warriors said this was more about hurting Hindu sentiments than Indian sentiments. Twitter user @GujjuVujju wrote: “BTW she totally skipped if she’s a proud Hindu. I wonder if she is even a Hindu anymore.”

And @HinduAmericans posted: “This is a ridiculous tweet. You’re not even apologizing. You make it sound like Indians are hurt, which is not the issue. The issue is you have denigrated peaceful Indians, especially Indian-American Hindus, who have NEVER had one single terror case. You lied.”

To this some tweeps like @savageslayerr replied: “First y'all decide hindu sentiments were hurt or indian...”

Many of her fans however, kept supporting Chopra, and said she should not give in to troll comments online: @fashionistapc wrote: “You are purest. The best. You don’t need to apologize babe. You haven’t done anything wrong. Your fans love you. That’s all that matters.”

And some thought, Indians should accept her apology, @munish09 wrote: “Seems entire Indian twitterati was waiting for this one message and to pounce on her. Relax, mistakes do happen, we are all human, it’s takes a big heart to admit a mistake and a bigger one to forgive!”

While some thought the whole frenzy was ridiculous, since the show is fictitious.

Tweep @cabelIolisp wrote: “You didn’t do anything wrong but act professional by playing a FICTIONAL ROLE. You’re an amazing person and I’m sorry that everytime you do something that doesn’t please Hindu nationalists, people suddenly cancel your Indian roots.”

An apology by ABC Studios, the producers of the crime drama, too, was reported in the US media: “The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn’t create the show, nor does she write or direct it.”
