Actresses Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskar and Sonam Kapoor have refrained from commenting on the prevalence of the casting couch in the film industry.

The actresses, along with newcomer Shikha Talsania, were speaking at the trailer launch of their upcoming film Veere Di Wedding when they were asked about veteran choreographer Saroj Khan’s statement on how “it provides a livelihood” for women. Khan later retracted and apologised for the comment.

Bhaskar said: “Firstly, this topic has nothing to do with our film Veere Di Wedding, and I think today we should keep our focus on the film. For the rest of thing, you please come on my Twitter timeline.”

Adding to that, Kapoor Khan said: “I do not think we should divert focus from this film. This is a very special film, and we have put a lot of effort. I think the film should get its relevant attention.”

Kapoor promised to answer questions on the casting couch and women empowerment when she gives personal interviews for the movie.

Speaking about the film, she said: “My favourite hero I have ever worked with is Kareena Kapoor. I am telling you, it is the easiest thing to work with other women. Unfortunately, our conditioning is such that people expect women to pull other women down and compete with each other. But what’s amazing is to actually work towards the same goal and create the best possible version of something. If all girls come together, they can literally move the world.”

She continued: “This an ensemble film that is about each girl’s journey. Each of us has an equally important story to tell... I don’t think such a film has been made before. Why can’t women headline a female commercial film which has a story about girls?”

Veere Di Wedding is directed by Shashanka Ghosh and is presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, Anil Kapoor Films and Communication Network and Saffron Broadcast and Media Ltd.

The film is scheduled to release on May 31 in the UAE.
