Looks like the Geralt of Rivia is taking a break from slaying monsters in the virtual world for a brief stopover in the UAE as he headlines the three-day Middle East Games Con in the capital this October.

Doug Cockle, the American actor-director, who voices the hugely popular character from The Witcher gaming series will headline the event at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), which runs from October 25 until 27. Cockle will be at the event on the second and third days, with a meet and greet opportunity for fans.

While the 47-year-old has had over two decades of experience in entertainment, he’s best known for his work as Geralt since 2007, as well as his voiceovers in the Horizon Zero Dawn and Division games.

Aside from the talent, highlights of this year’s event also includes a Fortnite Challenge, with the prize purse tallying at Dh10,000, along with 5,000 V-Bucks up for grabs, the in-game digital currency.

The challenge will be split into three skill-based categories: Build a Fort Challenge, recognising skills in design and creativity; the Ultimate Floss Meister, where participants can show off their dance skills by replicating the world-famous move; and a Solo Champ Tournament for gamers.

Registration is open for challengers and an admission ticket is required to participate.

Other events planned for the three-day convention includes a Cosplay catwalk show, gaming workshops, an indie developer showcase, Japanese Anime collectives, product launches, and more.

“Last year’s event attracted over 10,000 enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds, and with an even better and more diverse content offering on display this year our vision is for Middle East Games Con to set a new benchmark for regional game conventions,” said Suzy Pallett, Vice President — Consumer at Informa, in a statement.

“As the gaming industry grows and evolves with development and localisation in various formats, including PC, console, mobile and table top, we’re very excited to see what’s next ourselves and to share that with the community here in the Middle East,” she added.

Organisers have stated more headline talent will be announced closer to the date.

Tickets start at Dh115 for a single day and Dh315 for a three-day experience. Additional passes to meet celebrities are also on sale, with the meet and greet with Cockle priced at Dh199.
