Navigating a kid-friendly brunch is an art by itself. It can get noisy, chaotic and overwhelming for all those who aren’t used to the din that comes with dining with children. But that’s the beauty of the brunch laid out at Flow Kitchen at the Fairmont, The Palm. It’s one of the most laid-back brunches that puts parents and children at an instant ease. It’s a no-judgement zone and my twin boys put that observation to test as they used their cutlery as a drumming tool. The waiters just smiled and placed the breakable glasses out of their way.
This is one of the brunches that has its pulse firmly on what the children want. As you enter the restaurant that serves food from around the world, a lady dressed as Rapunzel greeted us. The theme on the day we visited was fairy tale-driven, but there’s always a bunch of cartoon characters to capture their young guests’ fancy. There’s also a designated corner for children to eat. A special buffet table filled with the usual kid-friendly food such as sausages, onion rings, pasta and nuggets were laid out next to the table and chairs. But what made the children swoon was not just the food alone.
The magic show, the face painting corner and a clown who was an expert at balloon twisting made the afternoon entertaining for the young ones. This brunch has enough distractions for a child to be entertained for an afternoon. While it can turn busy and reserving tables ahead is recommended, don’t let the organised chaos deter you from having a good time. The tables are placed close together to accommodate the burgeoning crowd, but it’s a tiny wrinkle on a fantastic afternoon.
When it came to food, there was a staggering variety of options for adults. Breakfast staples such as an eggs benedict, carvery station and a dim-sum corer were my personal favourites. The stir-fried shrimps and the roast meat were delectable. From pizzas to pancakes, the options were myriad.
It’s one of the brunches that cater to every taste and palate, but it never turns pedestrian as each cuisine is spot on. If you are looking for a brunch that is an utopia for children, care-givers and parents, then the one served at the Flow Kitchen is spot on.
