The new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was announced last Wednesday at a spectacular launch event in New York.

If you haven’t watched the event yet, check out the video stream on Samsung's YouTube channel. It was quite a spectacle.

After a few minutes of heartfelt apologies by Samsung bigwigs for the previous Samsung "Diwali-Edition" Note 7, the phone was unveiled to the world.

The Note 8 will be available for pre-order now and is likely to be priced at Dh3,399.

And you can place an order in the UAE for this new gear now.

It will be available in the UAE from September 22.

My first thought was that this is one handsome phone. It’s sleek, smooth and looks incredibly premium and posh.

Samsung Note 8 Features:

Jumping into the stats and features, let’s get started on the display. The Note 8 is equipped with a

Quad HD+ Super AMOLED infinity display, which is the largest screen ever on a Note device at 6.3-inches. It’s got curved edges and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio – which basically makes the screen even bigger, spread almost across the entire front of the device.

More quick stats: It’s loaded with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage, expandable with a microSD card. It runs Android 7.1.1 (Nougat), is water and dust resistant, rocks a 3,300mAh battery, and is shipped with AKG earphones.

One interesting feature is app pairing, it won’t blow your mind, but it’s a nice touch. With this feature you can pair two apps of your choice to launch into a split-screen with one touch. Google Maps and your music player, Zomato and your banking app, Snapchat and Uber – whatever works for you.

Samsung Note 8 Cameras:

The camera on this device is supposed to be revolutionary. Unlike earlier, nowadays two at the back and one in the front seems normal. The Note 8 features dual cameras on the rear (a 12MP telephoto and a 12MP wide-angle). What’s special about this is that it is the first smartphone ever with optical image stabilisation (OIS) in both rear cameras. The presentation went on to take a dig at the iPhone 7 plus, which lacks dual OIS.

The S Pen, got a makeover too.

It now features an even finer tip and better pressure sensitivity. The device has a pre-installed feature with colouring book templates as well. Those stress-busting colouring books for grown-ups can now be a set feature in your next smartphone.

Samsung’s Siri, Bixby’s now nifty. (< Wow)

Samsung’s voice assistant can now perform several custom, pre-set actions across several apps with one single command. Saying, “Good night” for example, can set your alarms, put your phone on silent, turn off Wi-Fi, etc., etc.

To wrap up, while the insides of the phone is quite powerful, but I still can’t stop thinking about how handsome this phone is.

PRE-ORDERS

The Note 8 comes in black, grey and gold and is currently on pre-order in the UAE from Jumbo at Dh3,399.

PS: The launch ended with 100 Samsung employees dancing with Note 8s. So if you do watch the launch event, please stop a little before the end.
