When asked by my editor if I wished to review an anti-ageing serum, two questions played up in my mind. Should I review it, and do I really need it (I am 36 years old)? Looking closely into the mirror, I realised I had fine lines on my forehead as well as under my eyes. Probably, this serum might just come
in handy.

I visited the Harklinikken Clinic on Jumeirah Beach Road, the sole distributors of Bioeffect EGF, the serum in question. The clear, non-scented portion comes packed inside a 15ml transparent vial.

What makes Bioeffect EGF different from other serums? Made in Iceland, the product is a result of thorough biotechnological research where plant–based replicas of epidermal growth factors (EGF) or cellular activators were grown in barley plants. So how do cellular activators retain our youthful glow? It stimulates our skin cells to multiply rapidly, which in turn slows our ageing. It also improves our skin’s elasticity and tone by helping increase production of collagen and elastin. Last but not the least, it helps our skin retain water.

Prescribed three drops at night and two drops during the day, I apply the serum on my face specifically targeting the forehead and under eye. I apply one drop on the forehead, slowly spreading the liquid to the eyelids while gently massaging the skin in a downwards circular motion. There is a drop each for
my cheeks as well, making sure it covers my chin and neck too. This is expensive so I am careful not to waste a tiny drop.

Did it work? It has only been a few days since I started using Bioeffect. I can feel my skin is moist and brighter compared to when I was applying a regular moisturiser. What I like most about this product is that it does not leave that sticky feeling on your face. It is lightweight and is easily absorbed, leaving a
smoother skin after application.

So did the lines on my forehead and around my eyes magically disappear with Bioeffect? Find out after I complete the 30-day treatment. Watch this space.

Price: Dh535 for 15ml, lasts for about 30 days, available at the Harklinikken Clinic
