On February 25 Kuwait celebrated its 57th National Day and its 27th Liberation anniversary following the Iraqi invasion. Since the British protectorate ended in 1961 and Kuwait gained its independence, the oil-rich nation has prospered.

Here in the UAE, there are a number of events and activities planned to mark the occasion. According to Dubai Tourism, from February 22 until February 25, all aircraft flying into Dubai International Airport from Kuwait have been greeted with a water salute.

There will also be welcome messages displayed on flight information screens as well as gifts of Arab coffee, flowers and chocolates for Kuwaitis landing in Dubai. During the four days, the Kuwaiti anthem was also played in baggage collection areas as a mark of respect.

Dubai Food Festival is also marking Kuwait’s National Day. It hosted a series of events highlighting Kuwaiti cuisine until February 25. This included a cooking demonstration from celebrity chef Jameela Al Lenqawi, who is a regular on Kuwaiti TV and hosts her own popular show on Youtube. The event took place on Jumeirah Beach behind Sunset Mall.

On February 24, Khaleeji music enthusiasts were treated to a live musical performance by popstar Bader Al Shuaibi, who took to the stage at Jumeirah Beach. The culmination of the celebrations took place on February 25, when the sky above the Etisalat Beach Canteen at Dubai Food Festival hosted fireworks.

Ahmed Al Khaja, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Festivals & Retail Establishment, said, “The range of activities and events that will be held in Dubai to celebrate Kuwait’s National Day speaks volumes of the strong relations that exist between the UAE and Kuwait and will further highlight the values and cultural background that we share.”
