Fans of Deepika Padukone who have been eagerly awaiting news of her next Hollywood project will not have to wait much longer. The actress looks set to return as Serena Unger for the fourth instalment of the xXx franchise.
The news was confirmed by the film’s director DJ Caruso, who posted the comment following an Instagram post by fellow cast member, Ruby Rose.
The 31-year-old Rose, who is currently filming for the sci-fi horror film Meg with Jason Statham, posted a picture of herself next to some heavy artillery, saying: “And while I’m here I can’t forget my training for Adele in xXx... but... more new exciting news on that soon.”
When a fan quizzed Caruso about this, the director replied: “RubyRose, xxxMovie: Yes meetings next week. Honing in on story and start dates.”
Not seeing Padukone’s name, another fan popped the obvious question whether “Serena Unger Aka Deepika is there in xXx4”? To which Caruso replied with a resounding: “Oh, yes.”
Last year’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage garnered $346 million (Dh1.27 billion) at the global box office and shot Padukone into the Hollywood spotlight. News of her return isn’t surprising considering she refers to Diesel as a “dear friend” and garnered largely favourable reviews for her action-packed avatar.
Meanwhile, Padukone is currently filming for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati alongside Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. The film is slated to release on November 17.
