If you are heartbroken, single or a die-hard cynic, then we completely understand your utter abhorrence for soppy Valentine’s Day celebrations. But if you are not the type to sulk or go into hibernation, then we suggest heading over to The Gramercy in DIFC for a Valentine’s night with a twist.

Billed as the Anti-Valentine’s special event, it promises to be an evening of fun games, live entertainment, and special offers, but the highlight is the quirky menu.

There is a certain devious pleasure to be derived from ordering dishes called Torn Hearts, Frigid, or Egg in Your Face.

The set menu, while not elaborate has been creatively designed to offer something for everyone. You can choose a salad, a soup or both, and then for the main course there is a choice of seafood, lamb and steak.

For a healthy, crunchy opening to your meal, begin with the grilled artichoke hearts, heart of palm, and avocado salad with grilled prawns, served as lettuce wraps. A surprising, novel alternative to warm soups in this weather is the cold roasted beetroot soup with crème fraiche.

Two Faced is sea bass roasted and steamed and served on mixed bean ragout. But the Don’t Give a Toss Pasta is the real winner. The al dente penne tossed with melted stilton cheese, spinach and cream sauce — is simply divine. If avoiding the carbs, opt for the Black Sheep, which is a rack of lamb with sautéed potatoes and a minted olive jus.

The perfect finish to your meal would be to get Stabbed in the Back. But worry not. This is what the fresh fruit skewers served with vanilla and mint syrup are called.
